USGIF Announces 2017 Scholarship Recipients

USGIF awarded $117,000 in scholarship funds to students studying the geospatial sciences and related disciplines.

The annual USGIF Scholarship Program recognizes the achievements of graduating high school seniors as well as undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students. The program’s goal is to further the advancement of the geospatial tradecraft.

USGIF awarded 26 scholarships this year to six high school seniors, six undergraduate students, 10 graduate students, and four doctoral candidates. The Foundation also awarded the Ken Miller Scholarship for Advanced Remote Sensing Applications for the second year. This $10,000 scholarship is provided in partnership with USGIF Organizational Member Riverside Research. The Ken Miller Scholarship is presented to a master’s degree candidate studying remote sensing who plans to enter the defense, intelligence, or homeland security workforce.

Help Update the Universal GEOINT Essential Body of Knowledge

The Universal GEOINT Certification Governance Board requests participation from the GEOINT Community to update the Universal GEOINT Essential Body of Knowledge (EBK).

We ask that you please complete a 15-20 minute survey to help USGIF identify and describe the knowledge and skills critical for the GEOINT profession. The EBK serves as the foundation for all USGIF-sponsored professional development initiatives and influences the broader GEOINT Community.

GEOINT 2018 Symposium Call for Training Courses

USGIF is offering the opportunity to conduct training and education sessions during the GEOINT 2018 Symposium, April 22-25 at the Tampa Convention Center in Tampa, FL.

USGIF organizational members, accredited programs, and working groups may apply to present a two-hour class related to global GEOINT topics with a focus on human security and national or homeland security.

The purpose of these training sessions are for geospatial intelligence subject matter experts to provide updates on new topics, applications, technology, policy, and tradecraft. All training sessions are learning opportunities for attendees. Organizational promotion by presenters is not permitted.

The deadline to submit is no later than Friday, Sept. 29.

Tech Showcase West Registration Open

Join USGIF for this exciting two-day event to learn about the unique work of industry and NGA employees in St. Louis.

Tech Showcase West will kick off with the USGIF Technology Cluster Forum at T-REX in downtown St. Louis. This will be an unclassified day of conversations about innovation and the benefits of public-private partnerships.

Day two, NGA Tech Showcase West, is a classified event that will include an update on the new campus construction, engagement and interaction with NGA St. Louis employees, and a reception at Anheuser-Busch. This day requires a TS//SI/TK clearance, which must be passed no later than Oct. 11.

FINAL DAY: 2018 State & Future of GEOINT Report Call for Abstracts

USGIF’s annual State and Future of GEOINT Report provides the GEOINT Community an opportunity to assess the current state of the profession and look ahead to the technologies and tradecraft of the future.

This year, for the first time, USGIF is reaching out beyond the in-person content exchanges and announcing a virtual State and Future of GEOINT Call for Abstracts for those who cannot attend in-person but would still like to write for the report.

If you wish to submit an article for consideration, please prepare a one-page Word document including the following:

• A proposed article title
• An abstract of no more than 250 words
• The names, titles, and contact information of at least three authors not from the same organization

Abstracts should be sent to SFOG@usgif.org no later than Friday, Sept. 8.

Thank You for a Successful GEOINT 2017

Bringing together 3,883 attendees and 240 exhibiting organizations, USGIF’s GEOINT 2017 Symposium gathered the global GEOINT Community to discuss opportunities and solve challenges.

GEOINT 2017, held June 4-7 at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio, Texas, was the 13th annual Symposium and this year’s theme was “Advancing Capabilities to Meet Emerging Threats.” The Symposium focused on how next generation capabilities and processes such as machine learning and artificial intelligence, cloud computing, agile and enterprise acquisition efforts, object-based production, and change detection—to name a few—are shaping the face of intelligence analysis.

Among the attendees were 675 government and military personnel, including more than 200 representatives from the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency. There was also strong international participation from 34 countries. Among this year’s attendees were 211 young professionals and 104 participants from academia.
