USGIF Scholarship Program Now Open

The 2018 USGIF Scholarship Program is now open and accepting applications!

If you’re a graduating high school senior, undergrad, graduate, or doctoral student studying topics related to geospatial sciences, you are eligible to apply for the scholarship program.

USGIF Participates in Girls In Technology Sharing Our Success Event

November 17, 2017

USGIF exhibited at Women In Technology’s Girls In Technology Sharing Our Success event Nov. 16 at the AT&T Forum in Washington, DC. Young girls, grades 6-12, and their families were invited to hear from women in STEM fields and to see demos from local organizations. USGIF participated with a satellite imagery analysis activity, teaching the girls how to analyze imagery and examine before and after imagery from natural disasters.

NRO ASP Industry Advisory Working Group Accepting Co-Chair Nominations

November 17, 2017

USGIF’s NRO ASP Industry Advisory Working Group (NAIAWG) is accepting nominations and self-nominations to serve as a co-chair. Duties include serving as a focal point to the government and community, coordinating/preparing working sessions, organizing action teams, and assisting team members with publishable artifacts.

The deadline for nominations is Nov. 30. Please reply to NAIAWG@usgif.org if you’d like to self-nominate or if you have someone you think would benefit from serving in this role.

USGIF Staff to Participate in Upcoming Speaking Opportunities

USGIF CEO Keith J. Masback will participate in a webinar Nov. 13 at 11 a.m. EST as part of Pitney Bowes’ Li360 Geography Week Webinar Series. Masback will be part of a group discussion on the changing landscape of GIS careers and skills. Register for the webinar.

Dr. Darryl Murdock, USGIF vice president of professional development, will be a speaker as part of Esri’s Imagery Education Summit, Nov. 9-10 in Redlands, Calif. Murdock will be speaking on professional certification on Nov. 10 at 12 p.m.

USGIF Director of Academic Programs Dr. Camelia Kantor will be visiting North Carolina Central University Nov. 9-10 to meet with the students and faculty in the department of environmental, earth and geospatial sciences, as well as attend her former student’s undergraduate thesis defense presentation.

USGIF and NVIDIA Announce Winners of GPU Essay Challenge

November 7, 2017

In August, USGIF partnered with USGIF member NVIDIA to offer an essay challenge to individuals attending and/or working at one of USGIF’s 14 accredited universities. Applicants from accredited schools were invited to write a four-page essay answering the challenge question: “If you were given dedicated access to an NVIDIA GPU-powered supercomputer, what problems could you solve?”

Three challenge winners were selected to receive two NVIDIA Titan Xp graphics processing units each.
